Case Study // Focus Dashboard

Compound focus.
Ship one thing.

We built a commitment dashboard for founders who start everything and finish nothing. A 180-day contract grid, idea vault, and project graveyard that makes the cost of indecision impossible to ignore.

(01) The Pattern

Six brilliant ideas. Zero shipped products.

Start a project with genuine excitement. Hit the unglamorous phase (marketing, operational setup, the work that isn't building). A new idea appears. It feels more promising. Rationalise switching. Abandon the previous project with 50 to 140 hours sunk. Repeat.

The problem isn't picking wrong. The problem is picking nothing. Any shipped product teaches more about marketing, conversion, and product-market fit than six half-finished ones.

Willpower doesn't fix this. Structure does. We needed a system that makes the cost of switching visible and the decision to continue automatic.

(02) The Build

A financial terminal for your focus.

180-day contract. No renegotiation.

Set objective kill criteria on day one: revenue targets, user counts, lead thresholds by specific dates. The contract grid fills one block per day on attestation. Miss a day and the gap is visible forever.

One strategy window per month. Every other day, the decision is already made. This eliminates the daily re-deciding that burns founders out.

The Vault

Ideas go in. They don't come out.

Park new ideas with estimated hours. A “Capital Deflected” counter gamifies rejection. The vault is locked until your contract expires or your monthly strategy window opens. Structural constraint, not willpower.

The Graveyard

Every abandoned project, visible

Past projects with hours invested and a one-line autopsy. The graveyard accumulates evidence of the pattern. No shaming. No red. Just data. The numbers are uncomfortable enough on their own.

Time Budget

65 hours. Hard cap.

Weekly capacity split between Primary Bet and Cashflow Engine. Three active projects maximum. The capacity bar makes overcommitment visually undeniable before it happens.

Two Input Modes

5-second daily. Deep when needed.

Web app for daily attestation: glance, log effort, park an idea, move on. Claude Code integration for deeper coaching: strategy reviews, journal analysis, data-driven advice using your actual commitment data.

Design

No red. No shame. Just the numbers.

Financial terminal aesthetic. Deep zinc blacks, crisp white text, monospace for all numbers. The visual language communicates seriousness without anxiety.

Zero punitive UX. The battery bar doesn't turn red when you're over capacity. The streak counter resets to zero without commentary. The graveyard displays hours invested, not hours wasted. The system shows data and trusts you to draw the conclusion.

This was deliberate. Shame-based productivity tools are counterproductive for the exact personality type that needs this tool most.

(03) The Result

Structure that replaces willpower.

Don't Pivot shipped with a real-time Convex backend, daily attestation grid, time budget tracking, idea vault with deflection counter, project graveyard, journal, and full mobile support. Two input modes: web app for daily use, Claude Code for AI coaching.

The scoreboard tracks the only metric that matters: products shipped. Not projects started. Not ideas generated. Products that reached real users. Everything else in the dashboard exists to protect that number.
